Evaluate horizontal explosive leg power through standing long jump distance.
Standing Long Jump Test (Broad Jump Test)
Test Objective
To evaluate the horizontal explosive power of the legs (lower body).
Required Equipment
- A flat and non-slip surface (preferably a sports floor or athletic mat).
- Measuring tape.
- Adhesive tape or a marked starting line on the floor.
- Chalk or a marker.
- An assistant to record the measurements.
Test Protocol
- The subject stands with feet together (shoulder-width apart) right behind the starting line.
- They flex their knees, swing their arms, and perform a forward jump as far as possible, utilizing the momentum of the arms.
- They must land on both feet and maintain their balance without falling.
- The distance is measured from the inner edge of the starting line to the heel closest to the starting line (the rearmost touchdown point).
- If the subject falls backward or loses stability upon landing, the trial is declared invalid.
Evaluation
- Perform 2 to 3 trials and record the best jump (in cm or meters).
- Allows for comparison with normative data classified by age, gender, and athletic level.
- A greater distance indicates superior horizontal muscular power.
Variations
- Running long jump: Less commonly used in standardized physical fitness testing.
- Integrated into standardized fitness test batteries such as EUROFIT or TAFISA.
Recommendations
- Conduct a thorough warm-up including light jumps, squats, and dynamic core stabilization.
- Wear appropriate athletic footwear to prevent slipping.
- Ensure a completely flat and safe landing surface.
- Encourage the subject to maximize arm swing momentum to optimize the jumping distance.
